Hi everyone.
I have a 1996 Regency Elite. 3.8L 135K and I'm glad I found this forum and really glad someone put it together for us!

My wife was rear ended last night, busted the tailght and bumper and dented the left rear fender, but this morning I spotted a coolant leak.

I looked and it appears to be coming from a plastic tube sticking out of the front of the intake manifold on the 3.8engine. (front of engine = right side of car i hope)

I have no idea what to call this when I go to the parts store or even if its something I can(should) do. Is it as simple as it looks: a tube stuck into the manifold with maybe a ring gasket on it? I sure hope its that easy. I have no idea if the claims adjuster would beleive that it wasn't there before the accident...LOL

If you need a better description of this tube it appears to be about an inch long with a 90degree elbow just above what I think is the temp sensor that looked like it went into the base of pully (didn't have my glasses on to see it that well)

So, if someone could help me out here I'd be very grateful.
Thanks!
Popa Tim

For any who were interested, its called the coolant bypass elbow and I'm told its quite a common failure.

Thee are two ways to change it. The first involves removing the lower intake so you might as well do new gaskets while in there. This is the recommended way for anyone who hasn't had new gaskets in about 5 years.

Or you can remove the tensioner housing assembly from the front of the engine and pull it off from there.

Now to find out how to remove the tensioner assy...LOL
