I had the fan motor go out on my 93 ciera 3.3L. Easy to test. just pull it out & do a hardwire to the battery. if it goes it's fine, if nothing happens it's the fan motor.

I'm currently having a fan problem with my 91 ciera w/ 3.3 engine.
I've so far found out that you first check to see if the fan will run on direct power from the battery, if yes, then find the relay switch that controls it ( you can tell by the coloured wired going into the fan, mine was black w a purple stripe.) Find relay with that wire going into it, take the relay switch off, and check to see if there are any indications of being melted or overheated, Then put in a jumper between the terminals (should be 2 on top and 3 on bottom) , one end of jumper goes in top right terminal, the other goes in middle bottom terminal. If the fan works, then you probably have a relay switch problem. There are two other options as well. On the manifold, on passenger side of car(mines is under the alternator) there are two sending units. One sends a signal to the fan, to turn off/on and the other sends signal to the ECM. The fan is controlled by the ECM, so if either of these units are faulty, your fan won't come on. Since none of these three parts are overly expensive (around $10. Cdn) I'd suggest replacing all three, but, only if the fan doesn't work when directly connected to the battery.
Hope this helps you out.

FYI,
No, No NO!...No coolant should be coming out ot the thermostat area. Coolant system is supposed to be air/water tight. Otherwise you'd be replacing coolant every few miles.

the low coolant light is on because the low coolant sensor is bad, it is in the side of the rad. or bottom of the overflow jug. not sure what u are talking about the coolant around the thermostat?
