I just bought a '99 Intrigue. In doing research online I noticed a lot of people complaining about the car making a rattling noise when first starting out on a drive. When test driving the car I just purchased I didn't notice it at all, but now it's there. Here is the sequence of events:

1. Car is parked, not running.
2. Start car
3. Engage "D" gear
4. Begin moving forward.
5. Strange rattling noise occurs from front/left of car for a brief second.
6. No other problems for the rest of the drive.

This noise seems to occur virtually everytime I begin to move forward after the transmission being in park. It's definately a mechanical sound, not a vibration, or electric. It doesn't seem to matter if the engine is cold or not. I'll continue looking for other evidence to narrow down the problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?

Thanks

I have this problem, no solution as far as i can tell.. every mechanic i've been to says it's just the way intrigue's are built.

The way i figure it, if it's common and hasn't been recalled then it's not likely to kill me :)

ABS test? Thats what it is? That thing gets on my nerves. If thats the case why don't I feel it in my truck?

I'm sure most people were told that it's the ABS test. I can't say I know 100% though. The GM service person I deal with told me this. It was still under warranty at the time. I figure if it was an issue they would have fixed it. I don't think the dealership looses any money for working on warranty issues.

I dunno about how most of you feel about the sevice people in the dealerships but the one I goto are great. I've been treated very well there and most of them know my name. :)

I think it's an Intrigue thing. You know, kinda like our flickering headlight issue. I've got something like 80,000 km's on my car now. It's been making that sound since the day I got it (@ 35,000 km). I also assume that it's been making that sound since day one. Never had a problem with the front end except for a tie rod end replacement.

I dont know that answer i bought myh 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue new from a dealer and from day 1 it made that sound every time i back out of my drive way it does it. So took it back and the dealer looked over the car ( the mech. by was dating my sister by the way ) And told me that it was an ABS test the car has some kind of brake asst. prgm in it and that why when i brake u feel a click the father u push the peddel down. and that rub / rattle sound comes from that abs test.
