Any of you guys do this? http://caddyinfo.netgetgoing.com/dyno/4airboxtest.htm that site explains everything that needs to be done. I'm considering doing this mod to my car when I get some free time. I'm just wondering if any of you who have done the mod experienced a noticable (seat of the pants) performance gain. Please let me know. Thanks.

I removed the airbox on my Lincoln Mark VII LSC (1988) and it made a little difference. It felt like I had a little more power. It definitely sounded meaner when I floored it.. It's a worthwhile mod because it's free.. It might free-up 5 or 10 horsepower.. Some say 15 but I think that might be unlikely.. Still, mods add up...

Wait a sec.... You completely removed it??? Isn't that pretty hard on the engine? This mod is just talking about modifying it to allow more air to travel into it.

It has been dyno'd on the Aurora by at least one person. The gains were there, but not of the level you'd feel seat-of-the-pants. You really won't notice ~5hp. I'd say go for it, though. I'd mod mine but mine is nothing like that. :)

This is for the 4.0 engines but the airbox should be the same http://caddyinfo.netgetgoing.com/dyno/auroraair.htm

On my LSC, the airbox was just a silencer - it served no other purpose. It came before the air filter box... It was actually easier on the engine and may have even saved me a little gas... All the box does is restrict air-intake..

This is because there is no mod like this for the 2001+ Aurora. The airbox isn't the same. Ours pulls air from the well by the fender and behind the headlight. It's already a pretty good design and will pull in cool air.

IMO any airbox modifications are going to be futile. The engine can only flow so much, and if you add a KN filter or anything like that, in order to flow more SOMETHING has to be lost, and that is filtering capability.

K/N= More dirt and more noise....

You wont notice any power it would give you, therefore i recommend not wasting the money!

I didn't know it at first when I bought my 1995 Aurora (used), but someone had already modified the filter airbox. The Caddyinfo is good stuff for the Aurora, and as to K&N air filters, there's nothing better. "more dirt"-baloney! K&N uses cotton and screen-their filters are so good that the Washington State Police use them in their cars-remember Mt. St. Helen's eruption and the resulting ash fall? Volcanic ash is abrasive and will trash anything that it can penetrate. The K&N-equipped cars were the only ones to keep going-anything else stopped up and quit. I had a K&N filter on my 1988 Cutlass Supreme International, and I can tell you that it definitely affected seat-of-the-pants feel for the better! As soon as I can, a K&N is going in the Aurora! Ultimately, one of those mandrel-bent intake kits will replace the factory set-up, and then, a bored throttlebody. We'll see about what we can do further down the road for the rest, such as head work, exhaust system, etc.
