I recently had to repace my water pump in my 1st gen. Much to my dismay I found that it took a special socket to remove it. The socket is call a "Cadiilac/Oldsmobile Water Pump Removal Socket" it goes for $110. You can find cheap ones but they are not forged steel and they break. If anyone needs one or would like to buy it I will sell it for ummmmm, how about $45. Let me know if intrested. I only used it once and will prolly never use it again.

I replaced the water pump on my olds recently but I did not need any "special" socket. Sorry to hear about your expense.

Check your local Autozone.... that's where I borrow the odd tool now and then.
