Hey guys. My friend just got a 2000 Black Alero and he has a small problem. On the remote, the alarm (panic button i'm assuming I haven't seen it) works, however the door lock/unlock and trunk buttons don't work.
They have tried changing batteries and stuff, but the alarm/panic button works but the rest still does not. Any ideas?
Thanks, PCGUY.

I would be interested in finding out if there is a fix for this also. My girlfriend is having the same problem with hers and gone through the same steps to fix with no luck. If anyone has any idea how to fix this that would be great. I am assuming that the answer will be just o buy a new one.

I just responded earlier today on a similar question about the Bravada's keyless entry. As snowman mentioned, it might be more economical (and would be just as good) to have, say, an aftermarket car audio retailer just install a brand new keyless entry / alarm system. It usually runs around a couple hundred dollars.

I wish I could tell you there is an easy fix for this.
But it's a complicated issue that may need a Tech2 GM scanner -which means you will need to go to a GM dealer or someone that has invested $2.5-3.5K in a Tech2 scanner.
AlldataDiy.com has a diagnostic chart for this that is 3 pages long and involves the Tech2.

have you tried to reprogram the remote? or trying a different remote?
It could be as simple as somthing gone bad in the remote itself.
